Mt. Antero Climb

This full-day ride goes up above timberline on Mt. Antero. It isn't for the faint of heart, but provides wonderful views and numerous challenges.

The Route:

Head up County Rd 162, past Mt. Princeton Hot Springs and just past Apline. The road changes from pavement to maintained gravel before you get to Alpine.

Turn south on Rd 277.

This road is used by many, including jeeps, ATV's, and bicycles.

It's condition deteriorates rapidly in places. There are stream fords, as well.

At about milepost xx, there is a road to the west that goes to Baldwin Lake. The lake is beautiful, but this road is best left to ATVs.

Above timberline, the road becomes a series of sharp switchbacks. The side slope is steep and it's a long ways down.

Mt. Antero is a very productive gem and mineral area. Perhaps you have seen the Weather Channel's show 'Prospectors'. This is where much of it was shot.
