I bought this doll in little shop in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany in 2003. The proprietress told me she was handmade by a retired doll maker in southern Bavaria. She names each one, and to this one she gave the name 'Notburga' *. Her body is made from stiffened burlap and she is dressed in traditional Bavarian clothes.

* Notburga (c. 1265-Sept 16, 1313) of Austria is the patron saint of servants and peasants. Part of her story involves a sickle and thus, she is usually represented with a sickle and corn or flowers.
