I have been collecting dolls all my life. At a young age, our family had a great mishap, and we lost the majority of our belongings. I lost my original baby dolls and my Barbie doll from about 1960. Also lost, were several dolls from Germany and Spain (where we had been living for over 2 years). Most of the dolls I now have I acquired beginning in 1964. I was only 8-years-old then, so I got brand new baby dolls and new, "more modern" Barbie dolls! My grandmothers gave me a couple of the dolls we had bought them while in Europe, in order to replace the ones I lost.
When my dad was sent to Vietnam, he acquired several dolls from the Orient for me. My collection grew as we traveled and moved around the US. One of my grandmothers also traveled to Central America and Europe, and got souvenir dolls for me. My Barbie collection grew, as well.
After I got married, we moved quite a bit, and my collection of dolls continued to grow. My husband and my parents bought a couple of antique dolls for me. And of course, my daughter began her own collection of baby dolls and Barbies. She and I got hooked on the American Girl dolls and Cabbage Patch Kids. A chance of a life-time took me back to Germany for a year, where I found some more dolls to treasure.
While taking a photography class, and working on my macro-shooting style, I realized that photographing my doll collection would be a very interesting project. I decided to combine that with my love of coding webpages and created this on-line picture book of my collection.
